The Steel String Band
Steel String Band formed in Spring 2003, originally to provide celtic music for a beer festival at our spiritual home, the Crown Inn in Manfield. Something gelled. Word got round. Before long we were being asked to do more and more concerts and ceilidhs in the local area, and the band found its own identity and its own style.
We all knew each other of course.
We mostly play in other bands too, notably Steam Radio, the Judith Haswell Band, Fourum and the John Wrightson Band
It could be said that we have spent our adult lives playing music together. This understanding of each other shows in the way we play now.
Our repertoire is wide and varied - a cornucopia of Irish and Scottish tunes for listening and dancing to, traditional and contemporary songs for all occasions.
In recent years we have embraced Django Reinhardt style jazz as the Steel Swing Band. The rythmic patterns of swing jazz blend beautifully with the cadences of celtic music, and we have discovered here a delightful combination of musical genres.
